Two On Ideas creatives, Coe Douglas and Ivan Do, are part of an emerging not-for-profit group, PB&J, whose mission is to organize cultural events around Jacksonville that raise money and awareness for great local causes.
Their first event of the year, A Night of Words, was a storyteller’s evening focused on the theme of overcoming obstacles. With a roster of incredible speakers, including Al Letson, Bob White and Barbara Colaciello, the event raised awareness and money for The Sanctuary on 8th Street.
To market A Night of Words, PB&J used word-of-mouth, Twitter and a significant Facebook push to create buzz and interest. As a result, the event sold out online and saw a standing-room-only crowd pack the New Broadway Square Café in 5 Points.
As a case study on the power of social media, this project speaks volumes. Without a large budget, the PB&J team was able to leverage relationships via Facebook wall postings, their Facebook fan page, event notifications, Twitter activity and email blasts to stir up a frenzy of interest. What began as an unknown fundraiser quickly grew into a must-attend event.
Of course, best of all, PB&J was able to channel this all into the true goal, which was to raise money for a great not-for-profit organization.
